Bathing Your Pet Guinea Pig

Many might think that a Guniea Pig need not be bathed and but everyone agrees the fact that it is best to have a clean pet at home and that cleanliness is important for the pet’s health too. Here is a simple article that which will describe how to bathe guinea pigs so that they are clean. Care should also be taken that the bathing does not harm the pets, do it is essential that you follow the right process.

List of things required:

Ø Towels

Ø Bathtub

Ø Small plastic tub (larger than your pet)

Ø Plastic mug or cup

Ø Recommended Pet shampoo

Ø Hair dryer

 

1. Start with spreading out one of the towels on the floor and hang the other so that you can use it later.

2. Keep the hair dryer ready for use. Like always ensure that it is at a safe distance from water.

3. Fill the plastic tub with water so that your piggy would be half immersed in the water and place this tub in an empty bath tub preferably. If you do not have a bath tub you can also do this on a bathroom floor with some caution.

4. Pamper your Guinea Pig so that he is not scared and is relaxed and knows that you are not goig to harm him. It is very important that he feels secure when you are bathing him.

5. Hold the piggy properly and try to make him even more comfortable by speaking to him in a smooth tone.

6. Lower the piggy in the plastic tub and check whether he is panicking. Show your love to him so that he is more comfortable in taking the bath.

7. Start pouring water slowly on the back of the guinea pig. Avoid pouring water on the face and the ears of the pet.

8. Once the piggy is wet you can scrub the back with pet shampoo. Do not use the shampoo on the face and ears of the piggy. Scrub the remaining parts of body and lather well.

9. Now pour clean water on the piggy with the help of a mug. Rinse the guinea pig properly so that there are no traces of shampoo left. You need to keep pampering and speaking with the pet all the time.

10. Once the piggy is thoroughly rinsed you can take him out of the bucket and place him on the top of the towel that you had laid on the floor. Dry him with the towel and continue speaking to him softly.

11. Now use the second towel to perfectly dry him and to cover is body so that he feels warm.

12. You can use the hair dryer to dry him, if he is comfortable with the noise of the dryer or you can skip this step.
